Startingin 1949 in the Class D Eastern Shore League, Ham has worked his way - steadily upward - to AAA competition and a month in the major leagues. Continually outstanding in the Brooklyn Dodgers' farm organization, he performed with the St, Paul Saints of the American Association the past two seasons, except for a brief stintwith Montreal in the International League atthe beginningof the 1954 season and a month with the parent Dodger club last year. In 1954 his bat- ting average of .350 was a virtual tie with the champion in the Association - a broken hand suffered in August prevented his getting the required number -of times at bat to be named official batting champion. even when the game is hottest and the crowd is loudest - is admired in sports circles everywhere.
