Classmates, parents, teachers, members of the school board, and friends: We are traveler on the high road of learning and tonight we pause at a fork in the way Until now we have enjoyed the comforts and companionship of our parents, teachers, and class- mates Perhaps we can best show our appreciation and grati tude to all who have made our years at Sand Creek High School so profitable and pleasant by choosing the right road ahead There are farewells that are hard to say There are de cisions to make and new and difficult burdens to shoulder The way, so far, has been clearly marked We have been pro tected and disciplined by our parents and teachers, but now must make our own decisions and our only discipline will our conscience As we approach this fork we are uncertain which road take In my opinion we are not unlike our country today for that matter the entire world We have called ourselves the Half Century Class Let's pause and look back over the road of the last 50 years We have fought two Wars to save Democracy Never before has our Democ acy been in more dan ger Shall we continue the arament race we have started' Shall we tax ourselves into bankruptcy to police the world? Which road shall we take? We have but one clue to help us in America needs aroused citizenship today, Citizens that place the Golden Rule above hatred, greed, and jealousy tit izens that ask not now much can I get from my Government but how much must I give to keep our Democratic Government For some, this night marks the end of formal education, but this does not mean that learn'ng has stopped F om now on learning will come from true experiences Others of us will be fortunate enough to have the benefits of higher education at schools and colleges throughout the country If that is our privilege may we zrasp and hold fast to that which is fine and 8D11YHU8HlDg to the end, that it makes us better c1t'zens The time has come when we must depart from our school where we have spent many happy years together. It is with heavy hearts that our Class of 'oO bids you farewell and hum bly start our journey on this new road, remembering our motto: uAfter 'ommencement Common Beverly Hillard ' P' ' I W 'Q I C we be O to e OP I our decision and that is to find the path marked, 'Peace'. .
