Classmates, parents, teachers, members of the school board, and friends: We are traveler on the high road of learning and tonight we pause at a fork in the way Until now we have enjoyed the comforts and companionship of our parents, teachers, and class- mates Perhaps we can best show our appreciation and grati tude to all who have made our years at Sand Creek High School so profitable and pleasant by choosing the right road ahead There are farewells that are hard to say There are de cisions to make and new and difficult burdens to shoulder The way, so far, has been clearly marked We have been pro tected and disciplined by our parents and teachers, but now must make our own decisions and our only discipline will our conscience As we approach this fork we are uncertain which road take In my opinion we are not unlike our country today for that matter the entire world We have called ourselves the Half Century Class Let's pause and look back over the road of the last 50 years We have fought two Wars to save Democracy Never before has our Democ acy been in more dan ger Shall we continue the arament race we have started' Shall we tax ourselves into bankruptcy to police the world? Which road shall we take? We have but one clue to help us in America needs aroused citizenship today, Citizens that place the Golden Rule above hatred, greed, and jealousy tit izens that ask not now much can I get from my Government but how much must I give to keep our Democratic Government For some, this night marks the end of formal education, but this does not mean that learn'ng has stopped F om now on learning will come from true experiences Others of us will be fortunate enough to have the benefits of higher education at schools and colleges throughout the country If that is our privilege may we zrasp and hold fast to that which is fine and 8D11YHU8HlDg to the end, that it makes us better c1t'zens The time has come when we must depart from our school where we have spent many happy years together. Kathryn lcKee left to enter Pittsford school and Mary Lou Morgan entered here from Onsted. This year we have made rather an intensive study of foods diets and balanced meals. Each pupil made posters to repre- sent proper kinds of food for them and are keeping a record of loss or gain in weight for each month and the gain in height for the school year. At present we are conducting a cleanliness campaign which includes brushing of teeth, combing hair, clean handkerchief, clean hands and face, clean clothing and brushing of shoes. Our teacher supplied each of us with samples of soap and tooth paste. Our work in language class for letter writing has been made very interesting by writing both friendly and business letters in perfect form and mailing them. Y F -V--vm - M -- . .W .. , 7 H - fg 5 Q .
