HAmVEoTER afeclcctory Parents, teachers, friends, members of the school board and classmates There are times in the life of everyone when Farewell' seems the saddest of all words There are other times when around this sadness lingers a touch of hope and joy and to night ls one of those times of mixed emotions ture of building a peaceful world as well as building useful lives We, as the youth of America, must build on strong foundations lany are building on artificial foundations which seem strong when things are going along smoothly, but let the storms of life come and they crumble into dust W must build securely The world is depending on us to be the leaders of tomorros We cannot make this contribution unless we have fully prepared to do our best. There are many famous people who have made millions of dollars for themselves, but when you look under the surface of their lives you find that they have contributed odbfshal low and superficial portions to building secure foundations in the lives of other people If you search ln the unknown places you will find people known only to the friends they have helped These are the people who are really leaving something to the future world It is our challenge as high school graduates to build hi but to remember that a great life must first have afirm oundation We are Builders of a future Let's construct it so secure That through all l1fe's raging tempests, It will evermore endure Great are the joys and privileges of being a High Schan student. Yet not one of this graduating class, I am sure, would choose to remain one forever There are other heights to climb, other prizes to capture in the great game of life, other marks' toward which we feel we must push. Why do so many young people set out on their graduation day with high hopes and golden promises and yet fail to make even a tiny mark upon l1fe's pages? Perhaps it is because they have not built on strong foundations or perhaps once started on the path of llfe they do not push toward the mark but live on the praise of past achievements. As this is probably the last time that we shall be as- sembled in a group, we, the class of 1949, wish to say fare- well to everyone who has had a part in making our high school career happy and successful. We wish to express our gratitude to you, our school board-also to you, our teachers, for your assistance during our high school days. We want you to know that we fully ap- preciate the value of your guidance during this, the period when we were building the foundations of our lives. We thank you, dear parents, for your faith in us. We wish to assure you that, though our efforts may seem weak I1 I' 0 ll e . I Tonight we are starting on a great adventure--an adven- . e ll
