nmmsm wzfecfzcto ry Classmates, Teachers, Members of the School Board, Parents, and Friends Tonight is a big night for all of us for you Parents who have raised us from tiny tots to the men and women of tomorrow, for you Teachers, who have taught us step by step the rules of life, for you Members of the School Board, who have made it poss ible for us to be here tOn1Pht, for you Classmates, who have made our school life more pleasant, and last, but not least, for you Frlends who, we all know, are essen tial to everyone For all of you this night is import ant. But for us, who are now leaving this easy going school life, it means even more It means we will no longer be ckildren We are entering into life for the first time where we will soon have to solve all our own problems We will go forth and establish a place for ourselves among our fellow citizens. What we will do will not only influence our own lives, but also the lives of many around us You people gathered together here tonight have made this possible We all know there is a war going on, and that many lives are being taken every day We ask ourselves why ? The answer that immediately pops into our mind in 'To preserve freedom Yes, to preserve freedom years the same thing will happen again? Ne all sin cerely hope not, but what are we doing to prevent it' We say we buy war bonds and stamps, pay high taxes, put up with ratloning, and do without things These are all sacrifices, but small ones What would we say if someone told us that tomorrow our country would be in the same condition as England's or some other war torn place? We would begin to realize how really fortunate we are, how small our sacrifices have really been I think something should be done to prevent an other war like the present one One big thing can be done with the help and cooperation of every one of us The world needs educatlon Why can't we helm give it to themv Young people in America are being educated They are learning how wars start and how peace is brought about They are learning the ways of democracy Think a minute about the children of Europe H1tler's children They are belng educated, but what an educa tion! They are being taught to hate, spy, lie, and kill. What an intelligent group of citizens they will make How can peace be really won for the world with the cfildren of today being educated in that way to be come the men and women of tomorrow' First, the war must be won, second, the peace must be won, and third, the people of the world must be edu cated They must be taught the difference between right and wrong Our fab in the future is not only to teach them the difference but to impress upon them the importance of knowing this difference What is the value of knowing the difference between right and wrong li .
