i xg? ff A f I 5 CAPT. BRYAN B. BROWN JR. USN COMMANDI G OFFICE Captain Bryan B. Brown, Jr. USN, was born Au- gust 21, 1923, in Honolulu, Hawaii. A graduate of the US. Naval Academy, Class of I9-17, he was commis- sioned as Ensign in June 1946. Captain Brown's first assignment was aboard the USS PRINCETON, where he served as Fire Control Officer. In July 1948, he commenced flight training and was designated as Naval Aviator in November 1949. He served in a variety of squadron billets, commenc- ing with VU-5, first as a Utility Pilot and later as officer-in-charge of the VU-5 Unit in Japan. In July l956 he was assigned to Heavy Attack Squadron ll as Operations Officer. He assumed command of Heavy Attack Squadron Seven in December I963 and took command of Reconaissance Attack Squadron Three in l965. In April I966, he reported as Executive Of- ficer ol' the USS RANGER LCVA 6lJ. In addition to the Naval Academy, Captain Brown has attended the Naval Post graduate School tB.S. Degree in Aeronautical Engineeringi, Massachusetts Institute of Technology QMS. Degree in Aeronautical Engineeringl, Industrial College of the Armed Forces tlVI.S. Degree in Business Administrationl, the Naval War College, and the Naval Test Pilot School. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and Navy Unit Commendation for service in USS RANGER QCVA 615 during I966 deployment in Vietnam waters. CAPT ELGIN C. COWART JR. MC USN COMMANDING OFFICER NAVAL HOSPITAL Captain Elgin C. Cowart. Jr., MC. USN, was born in Dothan, Alabama, on July 0, l923. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Arts and Sciences. Tulane University in I9-I-I. While an Undergraduate, he was commissioned Ensign on March l, l943, in the Navy's V-I2 pro- gram. He continued on in active duty through his training at the Medical School of Tulane University where he was graduated in I9-I6, and through his in- ternship at Touro Infirmary, New Orleans. In July, I947, Capt. Cowart reported for active duty at the Dispensary, Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas. During October, I9-17. he was trans- ferred to the Civil Administrative Unit. Yap, Caro- line Islands, where he was the Medical Officer. From December l948, to May, l95O, he served as Ward Medical Officer at Naval Hospital, Guam, M.l. He was released from active duty July IO, l95O at the Dispensary, Naval Air Station, Memphis, Tennessee. Captain Cowart was a physician in private practice in Brookhaven. Mississippi from l950 to l955. In January l956, he returned to active duty at the Naval Medical School, Bethesda, Maryland, as Resi- dent in Pathology. He next served as Chief of Pathol- ogy and Executive Officer at the Naval Medical Re- search Unit 43 in Cairo, Egypt from 1960 to I964. In July, l96-l, Capt. Cowart returned to the United States to serve as Curator of the Medical Museum at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington. He then reported to Naval Hospital in USS SANCTUARY in October, l969. On April 8, l970, he assumed the post of Commanding Officer, Naval Hos- pital in USS SANCTUARY. Capt.
