SANCTUARY provided direct medical support lor the following combat operations: Operation Beaver Cage 28 April - 13 May 1967 Dong HafDMZ Ollensive 4 - 11 .luly 1967 Operation Hickory and Operation TetfNVN Ollensive 1968 Operation Bold Mariner on Cape Balangan 1 1 .lan - 7 Feb 1969 Operation Lom Son 719 l-'ebruary - April 1971 Operation Lom Son 720 April- May 1971 SANCTUARY achieved an enviable record ol' service during her four years ol' direct sup- port of combatant forces on the lield. almost 25.000 patients were admitted for treatment and care. 2,633 of these were Vietnamese. More than two-thirds of all patients were subsequently returned to duty due to the excellent medical treatment received. On .1 April 1971 the 18,000th helicopter landed on SANCTUARYS helo deck. As of 30 April 1971, 18,484 helo landings had been made without casualty. On 1 May 1971, SANCTUARY departed Vietnam and began her trans-Pacific voyage home with port calls at Hong Kong, Japan, and Hawaii. On Thursday, 10 June 1971, she arrived at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. where she is being prepared for the inactive fleet. A GREAT LADY IS LOWERING HER SAILS.
