Dramatic and Speech The speech department suffered quite a blow when it s instructor Mr. Elser' was called into ser- sice shortly before contest. We had several entries in the first contest which was held at Sheldon. They were: Mick Epping oratory- Bob Crawford humor- ous- Edwin Baldwin extemporaneous speaking- Lynne Gowen Jean Hickey and Luann Wagner rn ter pretrve readrng and the one act play I Shall Be Waiting Mrck Epp ng Edw n Baldwrn and the one act play advanced to the next contest at Hartley Here the competrtron was rather strff but the play re cerved a I rating and proceeded to the next contest. This contest was held at Humboldt with thrr teen plays competrrrg for a chance to Journey on to the state contest. I Shall Be Waiting received a II rating which should be considered very good for the competition was very stiff. The play was the story of a blind woman Barbara Baldwin who was cared for by her daughter Ruth Norton. Mrs. Standing did not realize that h-r son played by Richard Anderson was rn prison Red Getting played the part of Mrs Standings doctor who was also rn love with her daughter Joan Laurel Ericson was the mes engcr boy who eventually told Mrs Standing the true story of her son Credit should be given to M ss Foley and Mrs Noll for thc trme they spent working with the var rous entries All rn all rt was a wery successful year for the speech department EQ?
