The Tormal greeTing given To us by The sTudenT body was The Freshman RecepTion. We were idenTiTied by brighT green bows. We were a very acTive organizaTion. A Freshman Council was elecTed, consisTing oT Two represenTa- Tives Trom each Democracy Nine Class, To draw up a consTiTuTion. The Social CommiTTee, headed by The girls' vice- presidenT, BeTTy BarTholow, planned To give parTies5 while The Roundup CommiTTee, Tormed and headed by The boys' vice-presidenT, Orson Dee, was To pro- vide enTerTainmenT Tor The Freshmen when The oTher clubs were having Their meeTings. The TradiTional Freshman paper, The Green Pea, was again or- ganized wiTh Bill Reece Tilling The iob oT ediTor. There were several Wednesday roundups and one big, successful noon dance. Tollowed by The cloThing drive Tor Europe. The Freshmen challenged The resT of The classes. The conTesT was a long, hard TighT, buT The Freshmen wenT ouT and scoured The Town Tor cloThes and won. To end The Tall semesTer, a big parTy was given. The TurnouT was large and The parTy was really en- ioyable. The Spring Roundup CommiTTee had iTs TirsT class roundup aT The showing oT The ski picTures in The High Sierra by Mr. Fred Hines. The commiTTee planned a varieTy oT TuTure roundups To provide enTerTainmenT every Wednesday Tor The resT oT The year. Among oTher acTiviTies, many oT The Freshmen parTicipaTed in larger school acTiviTies, such as The Yell Leader school To which abouT six oT our very acTive members belonged. They were Barbara Wad- low, RuTh RuTTino, PaT Farley, Dick Kachel, and Rose- marie Shelly. In The years To come, several proved Their eTTorTs were well worTh while by becoming as- sisTanTs and Head Yell Leaders. RuTh became an assisTanT and Rosemarie became Head Yell Leader. Also many TalenTed musicians Took parT in band, orchesTra, chorus, and marching band. They were, Joyce WaTkins, Marion Dee, Bob RoberTson, Jo Ann Herkner, Orson Dee. JaneT Braverman. Marilyn CarTer, Lil HildredTh, Joan TachoueT. Cay HodiTz, and Mary Jo BaxTer. The Les CouTurieres iniTiaTed a new idea oT having Freshmen girls as liTTle sisTers. The older girls waTched ouT Tor her liTTle sisTer and helped her as much as possible in becoming acquainTed wiTh The school. They Took Their Ii++Ie sisTers To dinners, parTies, and showed Them a good Time aT The annual Girls' Jinx. Many of our Freshmen boys showed promise as ouTsTanding aThleTes on TooTball, baseball, Track. and baskeTbaIl Teams. In TacT The C Track Team, which included The Freshmen: Orson Dee, Don Azevedo. and Bob Weber, won The N. B. L. Championship. The biggesT success oT The Freshman year was The passing oT The School Bonds. We all worked hard To puT This over To The public so ThaT we could have im- provemenTs on The buildings. and in I949, The year oT our graduaTion, we had our swimming pool. Sophomore Year Under The capable leadership oT PresiclenT Richard De TaTa. The class organized and gave a Sophomore Dance. This evening proved To be a memorable and enioyable one Tor The class and Their guesTs. A Tew weeks laTer, The sophomore paper was published and carried The announcemenT oT a conTesT To pick The proper name Tor The paper. There were ThirTeen sophomores on The San Rafael championship Bullpups' TooTball Team. LaTer in The year eighT more sophomores wenT ouT Tor baskeTball.
