April l7, the Home Economics department spon- sored a Spring Fashion Show in which the girls in the clothing classes modeled the clothes they made. March 20, 90 girls competed in the School Baking contest. Grand prize went to Marleen Miscovich, 2nd to Linda Garner and 3rd to Carole Klackovich. The Home Economics sponsored this contest. The Home Economics Department sponsors the Caterettes who give service to our school. They serve at teas, luncheons and dinners on special oc- casions. Miss Bicz sponsors and houses the Flower Center for Girls' League. The Home Economics teachers are always ready with a handy needle and thread, safety pins and spot remover. They furnish ice to athletic and science departments, and all comers besides. The National Forensic League is more commonly known as N. F. L. To merit a place in the National Forensic League, members must take an active part in contests, tournaments and other public speaking situations that they may earn the necessary 25 points for membership. These points must be ap- proved and registered with the N. F. L. National Secretary in Ripon, Wisconsin. N. F. L. officers for W'59 and S'59 were: Pres- ident Anita Spignese, Patricia Gorman, Vice Pres- ident Dianna Escobar, Patricia Gyokers, Tournament Managers, Mary Gail Congleton, Lance Sparks. Mr. Bachelor sponsors the group. This year N. F. L. members participated in Speech Tournaments at U. S. C and U. C. L. A. They held a Celebration Picnic at the close of the Community Chest drive, which they helped put over. Eating is a favorite Pirate activity. Sometimes it is organized and official, as at this luncheon lleftl for new Student Body Officers at midyear. But the largest unplanned activity on campus meets at intermission and noon here and there, for that well-known pastime, eating and talking. Skill and talent are not required.
