Many good moves were made during l956-1957. In leadership our Student Govern- ment made great strides. Student Coun- cil, out ot existence tor several years, was reorganized last tall. Only pre- registered voters could vote in student body elections. Student government aided by the administration, initiated a very successful Clean Campus pro- cedure. good llloa2eA for I9 6-I9 7 Summer '58 elected the iirst A-ll Cabinet, with Mr. Gallaher as sponsor. This extends to other than seniors ex- periences in leadership. New groups on campus are Quill and Scroll, and the group of former Dana Commodores. During Girls Week, Girls' Day in the Home was a new feature, .VII f X .. 1. W I 'X I AJ ,,f, I If Ti I l I ll N a Baking Contest ana auction of entries as highliaht. Art students designed the boat decorations for the annual Fisher- men's Fiesta to be held next fall, Top prize was a lilty dollar bond. Another campus improvement was the re-decorated auditorium, especially the loeautifpilly undecoratedfbyfama- teurs new seats. On March 22, many Pirates received Salk polio vaccine shots free. Driver Education classes study the care and operation of a car, the traffic laws, and how to be safer drivers and pedestrians. This course helps students avoid ac- cidents. They also acquire knowledge of our laws, and desirable safety measures. After ten weeks of Driver Education has been satisfactorily completed, a student may take Driver Training. A dual-control car is used, Driver Train- ing gives a student eighteen hours of actual behind-the-wheel experience. They became involved with quaran- tine, a phoney French actor, two eager young men from Harvard, bedbugs, and other catastrophies. The main characters were played by Rene Schon- leld, Dorothy Mayes, Eleanor Sanders, David Crockett, Ioe Bird, Lanny Nelms, Bob Amar, and Wayne Metzger. This was the last play directed by Miss Marylyn Leise who left at mid- term. Last semester the drama students put on a drama assembly tor all the stu- dents.
