With every tournament accompanies the hope of in- creasing their national ranking or impressing a college. They are a group of nine very talented tennis players from statesgall over the country: Mike Brownie Brown 1181, Montanag Beth Ookie Choate 1161, North Carolinag Jack 'ilacksonn Frierson 1l71, Georgia, Scott Wild Thing Hulse 1171, Illinoisg Mark Fruit Bas- ketu Gothard 1161, Californiag Jeff Frey Feet Kingi' Gothard 1141, Californiag Kylie Smilie Johnson 1171, Utahg Matt Waldo McKelvain 1171, Alabamag and Andy Potty Potter 1181, Colorado. They attend Total Tennis Junior Ten- nis Academy coached by Doug Shouffer and Woody Blocher. For over three hours a day, they sweat, practice, and run through their ex- crutiating work-outs. They all have very differ- ent games and techniques, but they all have one thing in common: their love for tennis. As they all say You got to love it . With support from their parents and coaches, they are hopeful of attending great tennis colleges. Ideally, the ulti- mate goal is to become pro. And after that may- be win the U.S, Open or Wimbeldon or even become ifl in the world. These dreams urge them onward, but most of all they do it because they love it. Tennis is their life and you have to love life to live it. Pictured from left to right: Jeff Gothard, Mike Brown, Matt McKelain, Betn Choate. Jack Frierson, Scott Hulse, Mark Gothard, Kylie Johnson. Juniors Speak Out olly Harksen: I feel that the teachers have given us a new respect. They feel we have grown up. They act more like friends instead of having a student-teacher re- lationship. Also we have more prive- leges. Josh Allen: It means being one step closer to that position of Senior that we long to be. However, it also means be- ing that much closer to going to college and being out in the world on your own. Nina Kim: It means that therefs only one more year until l'm on my own and off to college. Crista Gates: It means having more responsibilities. Responsibilities I donit want. Bail it! Lisa Lockwood: To be a senior next year. Chris Romney: Nothing! 'M'iT?e qMbortenseng To be a junior is not as great as being a senior, but let's you have an excuse, because your old enough to stay out late and party just a little bit more. Tom Gerlach: Being a junior means I still have another year until I get out of this school! ' o f ' .ygg Oh boy! My junior year has just been so special.
