Varsity Girls' Softball Steps Up To The Plate This yearis Varsity Softball team showed a lot of strength and poten- tial. Both of these qualities, said Coach Basalo, were very important to making a good team. After making CIF playoffs and finishing second place overall in the league last year, the team was sure it would have a winning season. There were several returning players, but plenty of new faces, too. The team was basically all Juniors. San Marcos was expected to be the toughest competition, since they were the defending champs. With the help of a new assistant coach, Lori Becker, and the more routine use of a pitching machine, the Eagle girls had a more spirited and together team. V Softball Striving To Win This year's Junior Varsity Soft- ball team went in swinging. They were the second time defending league champs and aimed to cap- ture a third. Coach Dolan pre- pared these girls for the third year, having earned them league title each time - his team had only lost two league games in the two years. With a record like that, they couldn't help but have a su- per season. Competitive games against Carlsbad and San Marcos determined their success on the field. Girls on the diamonds fnot the other way aroundl like Kristin Haag, Erin Welch, Kathy Harri- son, and Sheila Teach made each game exciting and a group effort. These players went on to plan for next year's teams . . . Varsity Soft- ball, watch out! B. Crack! Another great hit by a J.V. Player. C. Great form makes for another Eagle base hit D.
