Varsity Girls' Softball Steps Up To The Plate This yearis Varsity Softball team showed a lot of strength and poten- tial. Both of these qualities, said Coach Basalo, were very important to making a good team. After making CIF playoffs and finishing second place overall in the league last year, the team was sure it would have a winning season. There were several returning players, but plenty of new faces, too. The team was basically all Juniors. San Marcos was expected to be the toughest competition, since they were the defending champs. With the help of a new assistant coach, Lori Becker, and the more routine use of a pitching machine, the Eagle girls had a more spirited and together team. He said that in his six years of coach- ing, this was the best over all group trying out. Coach Vasquez likes coaching baseball because he Likes being with the kids . He says that dedication, hard work, mental disci- pline, and fun on the kids and the coach's parts as well are what make an excellent team.
