Girls'Soccer Step p To The Goal Soccer Carlsbad Ramona Torrey Pines San Marcos Vista J .V. Girls s.P. 9 o 7 0 1 1 4 1 2 o This year the Junior Varsity girls soc- cer is going to go for it! exclaimed an enthusiastic Coach Chlebowski at an early interview. She's been coaching for San Pasqual for the past three years, and loves it. Their goal was to win league. Their most important game oc- cured at the Holiday Tournament in which they placed second. Kathy Har- rison won most valuable JV player here, and at the end of the season other outstanding players were Kathy Day and Shannon Etson As for other games they tied up with Torrey Pines after losing to them for the past two years They also beat our local high schools teams The strongest team they played against was San Marcos, and they defeated them on the first match. Coach Chelowbski never played soccer in her l1fe until she gradually learned from one of her daughters She went on to study soccer and became an enthusi- astlc coach for San Pasqual Monica Kaufman uses all her 'Eagle Power to get the ball Jennifer Barsell does the Hokey Po- ey Joanne Tasher shoots for the goals A. This year, Coach Cherkins wanted to get kids interested in his sport, wrestling, and what better place to start than with the freshmen? He wanted wrestling to be pop- ular like other sports. The first step was encouragement. Coach Cherkins came from Escondido High School to hustle the fighting Eagles to a CIF victory. This year, frosh wrestling went up against their toughest adversary, Escondido, and, although they didn't do so well, the experience taught them and they got tougher. The team went to a tournament sponsored by and staged at Poway High School and placed tenth out of 16. Joshua Allen and Tom Winter placed third in the 147 class. Coach Cherkins inspired his team to dedicate individuals to learn and enjoy it at the same time. C A.
