Sims School Provides Day Care And Study MW, , . 'i K ww' fig! ,um-wmv ,o o Here at San Pasqual, a special program is available to pregnant and parent teens - the Sims school. Ori- ginally, a woman named Yora Sims held a type of home studies program on Grand Ave. In 1972 out of a desire to help the growing number of pregnant mi- nors who wanted to finish their educations. When SPHS was built, the Sims school moved in and took off from there. Now, about 30 girls and their infants and toddlers come to get the benefits of day care and study. Under Mrs. Hanaway, they learn the main subjects, and Mrs. Smerud teaches them the skills of parenting and homemaking. Although they can, no males have enrolled in the courses and have chosen instead to visit. The 14-19 year old girls are optimis- tic that they can lead a successful life with an educa- tion and a helping hand. A. Tina Barnhardt, Teresa Garcia, and Kristin McQueen B. Jessica C. 3and, Vocal Ensemble And Dhorus Fill Our Ears With The Sound Of Music lhorus and the other musical classes underwent a hange in the middle of the year when Mr. Enoscoe Jined us, but it didn't interfere with their perfor- nances. This year, our chorus was very small, prob- bly the result of harder schedules. What they lacked ri general force, they made up for in talent and were vetter than ever, and some good soloists were among hem. The chorus participated in the Winter Con- ert, Spring Concert, and Pops Concert. The first two were general music programs given free at SPHS. The Pops was not to be missed - a grand finale of ights, music, and action. Chorus is a step to our vocal nsemble, and students learned prefessionalism as vell as expanded their vocal talents. fPictured QL to tj: Tyler Wood and Gerald Lakeb i c . r f r. Like the times you actually gained or lost those precious pounds, discovered a new and exciting activity, or finally raced around the track without once collapsing. A girl's, boy's, co-ed, adaptive, or modified P.E. class was a way to get outside and stretch out. Physical fitness tests were given to measure a student's abilities and strengths Even if you can't do a pull-up or the shuttle-run in 49 seconds, fan SPHS recordl grades could usually be put right with regular participation. Based on testing and grades, our school uses color-coded shorts to note levels of physical achievement. fPictured: Girls' 2nd Period P.E.J Academics 56 ' ' ' 99 I'le I I . 7. , . , .
