Academic Decathalon The USAD is a national Olym- pics for the minds of our repre- senting team. The team of sev- en members includes A, B, and C grade upperclassmen. Mrs. Keithley led them to 11th place out of 47 schools in our county, answering questions in the ten categories. Four members played in Scholastic Superstars, a TV program on Channel 10, and won 35300. Vw.: , M Academic Decathalon Bottom Row: QL to RD: Barbara Bryant, Cathy Oretsky, and Jon Chaung. 'F ., . ,gtg .. ,,g, I, 8 5 , Q. 1 Academic League The three Academic League teams were ready for the tough competitions this year, and preparations went on all first semester. During practices, questions were made up about general knowledge in the academic area, such as: Under what male name did English novelist Mary Ann Evans write? Buzzers were hit and the fastest draw had the chance to answer. Our teams played other schools for league placings, but competitions against a team of parents and one of teachers were held in the form of fundraisers by the Varsity team. As for the real thing, the Varsi- ty members had the potential to reach the top, for three out of the six were from the original freshman team of three years ago that was the first to start on the SPHS cam- pus. Mr. Dean, Mr. Bryant, and Mrs. Bohan- non led their students through the Avocado League and had a good, strong showing. And if you answered George Eliot to the above question, The Academic League may be the place for you. hu.
