THE LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT TEACHERS in the language depart- ment not only teach students foreign languages, but try to impress upon the minds of the students the beauties, tcustoms, and legends of these coun- tries. These characteristics, along with literature and art of foreign peoples, are considered as much a part of the language course as the language it- self. Various language culture courses for students that are not particularly interested in languages per se, but feel that they would like to know more about foreign countries, are offered by these teachers. These courses, first in- stituted by San Mateo High School, have drawn considerable comment by educators throughout the state.
