The TITANIAN brings you a pictorial arrangement which records the seriousness, the gaiety, and the enthusiasm of our school life. Here is the campus as you remember it: the teachers' endless work, the activities and organizations that claimed your time, the friendly, casual people, the exhilarat- ing sports, and the seniors you will miss next fall. All are memories that will continue to live in your 1960 TITANIAN. I consider it o great honor to be elected A. S. B, president of San Marino High School, and I only hope that I have and will be able to represent S,M.H.S. in the way the student body would want me to. Don certainly did live up to his words. He led us, represented us, and was never too busy to be a warm and sympathetic friend on campus. He was a diplomat upon all occa- sions, yet proved to us that he was firm to his convictions. S. B. officers, all of the class presidents, the Girls' League president, the Boys' Forum president, and a repre- sentative from the' Titan Shield. It was advised by Norman Frost and headed by the A. S. B. president, Don Allen. As with any governing body, our student council didn't realize the vost amount of business they would be handling until they were members. There were dis- cussions as minute as the kind of Titan G. A. L. should have on their decals, and as monumental as what to do about the student body's spirit and attitude in assemblies. There were problems discussed and policies decided which had, and will have effect upon all the students at San Marino High. The House of Representatives is a young organization at San Marino High. This was its second year. A rep- resentative was elected by each English class, thereby representing almost everyone in the school. They discussed the problems of student council, and the representatives brought some of their own. The re- sults were carried back to student council by Denny Geiler, House of Representatives president and ASB vice-president. The House did not form policies, but it expressed a strong voice in forming them and in- volved more people in the business of school government. .. Have I lived up to all The hopes and plans I had for it? I'll have to do twice as much in the next two years! My class has been active as underclassmen. We sponsored the Ice- breaker dance after the first home football game. The juice machine was our money-making project until it had to be taken away. My class and the Freshman Class sponsored the Winter Wonderland dance on Dec- ember 5th. We held a carwash and sponsored the Care project in the spring. I'm looking forward to being an upperclassman-I hope I will be a good one. .,2 tr' E. Abbott E. Albrecht L. Allan P. Bollorini B. Berminghczm if S. Axelson l T. Ayers 4 is 1 2. MS.. Only one more year of high school?! Then where will I be? The past year has been hectic at times, but it has been a good year. After we enlarged the concession stand, business really improved. lt was fun to work in it-especially the free popcorn! l remember the day we got our long-awaited class rings. We really showed up the mighty l?l seniors by de- feating them in the traditional tug-o-war! The student directories were brilliant-though late. The day we ordered our senior sweaters made next year seem very close. Finally, what we waited and worked for all year-the prom. Who can forget that? l'm now to be a mighty senior. l hope l'll live up to the respect the title earns. juniors 1961 Secretary Arlene Hoch berg Vice-President Lewis Hoyt i Q -. :G- A. Mun prornetheans Because S.lVl.H.S. had chosen Titans as their nickname, the first members ot San Marinas service club chose Prometheans as their name. According to Greek mythology, Prometheus, one ofthe Titan gods, first gave the gift of tire to man. The name is fitting tor the club, because the Promethean members are known for giving spirit, honor, and enthusiasm to the student body. This year the clubs main proiects were ushering assemblies and other school events, inspiring a big clean-campus drive, and working out the details of the annual work clay, which earns money for student body scholarships. They have been consistently en- thusiastic and inspiring. All year they have made unusual posters, distributed pep tags, attended and supervised games, planned pep assemblies, coordinated and advised the various pep groups, and encouraged and arroused the spirit of the entire school. This spirit was awarded the sportsmanship trophy of the invitational basketball tourney. The entire student body hopes for the winning of the coveted CIF Sportsmanship trophy, b-ut no one so much as the members of the pep commission. lf we do get it, it will be due to their superior and consistent effort. lr Z s . ...4 1 lO5 59 ,ay dh 5 H V an Z. - ,f 'N Q -Q 'D s ', Qs M S 'f Q ' t ' V ,. - , J Y, Q, . With The fine coaching of Mr. Bradford The Team had a good record. The practice meets were highlighted by a convincing win over Monrovia. The team opened The league by beating Temple City, They then dropped th next two meets to strong teams from Norwalk and Artesia. The best meet of The year was an exciting 28-27 victory over So. Pas. As The teams lined up for the league finals, Artesia had undisputed first place in The league, and San Marino, So. Pas., and Norwalk were Tied for second with 2-2 records. With strong efforts from every team member the Titans took second in The finals behind Artesia and therefore won second in the league for The season. The JV's also had a fine season, finishing in a tie for second place, The hard work also paid off later in the year when it helped cross country men break records in track and swimming. M94 The senior year of high school-it's an epitome we'd admired tor a long time Funny that, when we finally did make it, we were often times too busy, too worried, or too lazy to notice the respect and leader- ship looked for in us, That trust was a big responsibility. We sometimes betrayed that trust. Funny, too, that the 'igood times of the senior year that we'd always before consid- ered so elite and so sophisticated were shallow and do not live in our memories. We remember more clearly the triumphs and even failures of ourselves-as indi- viduals, as a class. We look at the past four years of high school with sentiment, What rosy clouds we were in! How much we thought we knew when how little we knew. But-that innocence was sweet, that cloud was rosy. It's sad that we can never again return to it. The uncertainty of the future was and is real. Where am I going next year? What am l going to do in my life? Who am l in the world? These questions add new signifi cance and new depth to our lives. We a little uncertain, but we are challenged the future.
