Now you have the results of our many hours of planning and assembling. We hope, as the years pass, this book will bring memories of the happy days you spent in San Marcos High School. F? E ' Outstanding in our memories of the school year 1955-1956 is our Rattler Band which popularized ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK and made it our fight song. We're sure that this song will always recall to the students of San Marcos High School the football games, pep rallies, basketball games, parades, bonfires ..... Since Rock Around the Clock played such an impo rtant part in our school life we chose CLOCKS for the the me of this 1955-1956 Rattler. It has been a pleasure and privilege for me to have the opportunity to serve as your superin- tendent. I Should like to commend the student body for its fine attitude and wonderful spirit and the high school faculty and principal for their splendid leader- ship and their efforts to make this a successful school ll. fro Mr. Joe and Mr year. MRS. ALICE WILSON To each student I would say that the aim and phi- SECRETARY losophy of your school has been to help you discover your interests, aptitudes, and abilitiesg to guide you in achieving knowledge sufficient to enable you to pur- sue your future studies profitablyg to lead you to higher ideals and acceptable standards of human behavior to the end that you might become a fine and worthy man or woman. The challenge is yours. Let me hope you realize that all good and worthwhile things come through work, planning, sacrifice, consideration for others, and similar good character traits. You must use the opportu- nity that presents itself today. Be hurnble, patient, and seek to do those things that Will make this a better world in which to live. I have the utmost confidence that our student body, with the guidance of the teachers and parents, will be successful citizens! Let me wish for you the very best in life! ,area s' --., 43 -v-nur over school activities. MRS. KATHRYN CARSON SECRETARY wr K m DEAR STUDENTS: The clock has ticked away another year in San Marcos High School, and as the hours pushed each other around the clock we rolled in high gear most of the time. In sports, in social activities, and in literary pursuits we have won our part of the laurels At times we have been rocked but each time we have rol1ed back. The class of 1956, largest in the history of the school, has added to the reputation and to the tra- ditions of the purple and white, and this school annual will be a cherished record of friendships formed and accomplishments remembered. My wish for the seniors of this graduating class is that you will re- main loyal to the best that you have learned here. A. Pinkerton. He was a loyal supporter of all of the activities of San Marcos High School and did not count the extra hours he spent serving the interests of San Marcos school children and high school students. Mr, Pink will always be remembered for his efficient, faithful attention to duty and his willingness to make any sacrifice to get his boys and girls to their games or to school on time. He suffered with the Rattlers when they lost and rejoiced with them when they won, so his passing saddened the hearts of his many school friends. NOW rf f--M.. .
