Dances Take NewApproach Dances at San Marcos took a new twist this year. In the dance sponsored by the Drama Club C'A Hollywood Premiere D the standard layout of the dance floor was altered to create an atmosphere sim- ilar to that ot a night club. Tables and chairs were positioned on the stage over- looking the dance floor. Many students dressed in costume, and some won prizes tor their attire. Another innovation was the conversion ot the traditional CSF Mardi Gras to a couples only, Sadie Haw- kins dance where roles were reversed and girls invited boys. Other favorites included the Harvest Moon Ball, the Sweetheart Swing, the Convention Ball, the Last Chance Dance, and the ever popular after Game Dances. Pictured: Yearbook photographers record a variety of moods at some 1979-'80 dances.

76 FALL Mystery Comes to San Marcos Barbara Bullard, senior of '79, stepped in at literally the last moment to fill the gap left when Mimi Atkinson moved to Colo- rado. Her excellent performance, despite the short notice, was characteristic of the whole play. 'tAny Number Can Die was the Performing Arts Departments first major production of the year. lt was a spoof on the detective shows of the late 20's and early 3O's. Although it had a number of comical overtones, the play was filled with suspense, and it kept the audience on the edge of its seat either by the eerie sets and special effects, or by the intriguing plot. The impressive sets were designed by director Marjorie Luke, and the sound effects and lighting were executed flawlessly by the stage crew. The action of the play was set in the liv- ing room of Raven's l-lead, an old man- sion on a deserted island off the coast of North Carolina. The plot began with the usual grouping of relatives, employees, and reporters convened to hear the read- ing of the will of eccentric Cedric Russell. The will stated that a large part of the inheritance was left to sweet, innocent Sally Van Ville. The will also provided a list of the other greedy relatives in the order which they would inherit should the previous be deceased. This, of course, set the scene for a series of money-moti- PLAY 2 4 vated murders. Then, just to keep the audience on its toes, a riddle was pro- vided so that the most astute of the rela- tives could get the rest of the inheritance. As the play progressed, many of the peo- ple were looking for the money, and some of them were getting killed.
