Slow Start, Good Finish Because ot much rain this season the boys' tennis team got off to a late start. With the loss of five varsity members, it looked like this year would be a time of rebuilding for the team. Most of the responsibility was placed on the few experienced players, Greg Falzon, Paul Kuhn, Chris Merrill, and David Orr. Com- petition within the league promised to be tough as usual. Under the coaching of Mr. Lodas, the team felt that they had a good chance for CIF. The JV team was young and inexperi- ence. 'Y' . .f 35f.,'.fN fvi ,. 7, V' ,A . . , Champions All The Way For the 1980 Royals golf team, the late winter rains delayed the start of the sea- son, but did not dampen the team's spirit. This year's squad was led by sophomore Sam Randolph who, with junior Scott Lorenz, formed the heart of the team dominated by juniors and sophomores. Stoney reported that this year marked the first time a woman, Hilary Flack, started as a varsity player for San Marcos. l-le also singled out the play of freshman Rick Dizinno as being noteworthy. The team set its sight on two tough goals - another Channel League crown, and another chance at the CIF-Southern Section title. Over the last five years San Marcos has come in either first or second in CIF competition. Top flight teams and outstanding indi- viduals attested tothe coaching skill of Mr. John Stoney, who was rewarded with the t'Coach of the Year title by the Cali- fornia Coaches Association. GOLF
