Young Team Swims Ahead The swimming teams were the only ones whose practices were not ham- pered bythe rains, and the coaches were constantly amazed by the steady, marked improvement. ln spite of the fact that SOWJ of this year's JV team had never been to a meet, coaches Allen Lorentzen and Sydney DeFay looked for a year with no problems and many successes. f.. Bod Caughell, Team Looks M M Toward Title Heavy rains during late February put a damper on the preseason training and practice games for the 1980 Boyals' baseball squad. After splitting a double header with Lompoc, the next four games were rained out. Mid-March found the team plunging into the Channel League race with hopes of repeating as league leaders like they T 3 am A E did last year. Coach Mueller felt that the two toughest opponents would be Buena and l-lueneme. At the outset, the teams strength rested on the talents of all-league short- stop David Graham, pitcher John Mar- tony, and the fielding of men like Alan Jones. The JV baseball team was in excellent physical condition at the beginning of the season. Even though the rain washed out many practices and a few of the first games, the team kept their Boyal spirit. When asked what he thought of his team, Coach Williams stated, All of'them -... f are Starsf, This years group was espeu JV BASEBALL.
