'av I High school may seem to be only a name we give to the years we endure before graduation, but there is more to it than that. High school holds different beginnings for every person, and these may vary from year to year depending on the individual's changing view. Begin- nings are encountered by everyone in high school, each person's beginnings different from another's. High school is the beginning of indpen- dence. lt is where we start building self- confidence and finding out who we really are. People begin to discover themselves through their interests, whether it be in sports, dramatics, academics, art, or something else. This is where students begin to show concern for their futures, find out which career they would like to pursue, and start to plan ahead for this career. Up until high school, students tend to consider school as something they have to do. However, in the three years before graduation, the life ahead of us takes on importance. With the help of teachers, parents, and counselors, we are beginning to shape our futures. W' nm THEME 9
