Aiming For The Future UThe Math Club tries to help its mem- bers with new mathematical ideas, com- mented advisor Mr. Godar. Unfortu- nately, from lack of time among its mem- bers, the club's activities were limited. They did, however, welcome a math speaker from UCSB who spoke about Math ln Your Future. Some members also participated in the rigorous National MAA math exam to further their studies. Diplomacy New Game The Chess Club became more ot a genuine game club this year. Members spent many lunch periods keeping busy with Chess, Othello, Dungeons and Dragons, and other games, but the one that really developed member interaction was the popular, strategic war game, Diplomacy Whether the members were Chess fans, game nuts, or serious war diplomats, fun could be found in the Chess Club. 1. MV- Bowman. i 3 Members Enthusiastic MECI-IA, which stands for the Movement ot the Chi cano Students ot Historic Atzlan, was formed tor the benefit and mutual interests ofthe American Chicano students. The club, which proved to be popular this year, participated in various activities throughout the term. These activities included selling pastries during the Homecoming Carnival and participating in Ducky Don Week. ln recent years, the club gave scholarship and hoped to continue doing so. MECHA, which had many enthusiastic members and was vvell supported by its advisor, lvlr. Boorman, set as its goal the recruitment , of more people for next year. S IVIECHA 119

Orators Hit Hard Times Concentrating on speech techniques and improving speaking abilities were the main goals of this year's speech club. Unfortunately, with the loss of advisor Mrs. Tindell, and the departure of presi- dent Mimi Atkinson, the club hit hard times. Without an official team, the club was also unable to participate in many com petitions.
