The Sophomore Transition The sophomore year can be the most traumatic of high school. With a new, more open environment, students' reactions can vary. Most sophomores come from a tightly reigned atmosphere in junior high. When they realize the amount of freedom available in high school, not all react positively. For some, there is a will to experiment with the newly found freedom, to take on the part of the myth of Hthe high school student. Unfortunately, the freedom can become abused. Of course, not all sophomores react adversely. Many adjust quickly and find the social and academic life they want. Some become involved in performing arts, some excel scholastically, and others achieve both. Whatever the reaction, sophomores can become and are a vital part of the student body. Although they may go unnoticed or unappreciated, it is important that they realize their worth.
