Newsfoto Publishing Company San Angelo, Texas t fqsjgaii Students at San Marcos Baptist Academy come from all over the world. They come from Argen- tina, Bolivia, Canada, Canal Zone, Ceylon, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Libya, Peru, Puerto Rico, and the West Caroline Islands. There are also students from the two new- est states in the union, Alaska and Canada. The students from the states learn to work and live with people of different races and religions. They learn to tolerate each other's beliefs, to un- derstand each other's ways, and to love each other for themselves, not by what country they might represent. A Garden of Flags stands on the north side of Carroll Hall where each country is represented by its national flag. It was dedicated on October 12, 1961. THEY CCME FRGM Y FAR AND NEAR Dedicated in .... COACH BOBBY GIBBENS Because of your untiring efforts on the field and court, your never-say- die attitude, your ways of teaching good sportsmanship and clean play, your loyalty to the players, your deep interest and love of athletics, your words of praise and criticism when we win or lose, and because we know you give your all, we dedicate the 1962 CREST to you .... . . . . Zoach Hlfdby CARROLL HALL Carroll Hall, the main building on the Academy hill, was the first building constructed on the campus. ln its first years, it housed the boys, girls, faculty and staff members, infirmary, offices for administration, kitchen, classrooms, chapel, and dining hall. A large indoor swimming pool, two basketball courts, girls' and boys' dressing rooms, and the M. I. class- rooms are located in this building. Much credit is to be given the 1962 CREST Staff, who has worked and co-operated in every way to make this CREST possible. Many hours were spent in the planning and assembling of the 1962 CREST, As we look back at this CREST we will always be reminded not only of the last minute rushes, pic- ture schedules and deadlines which the staff had to meet, 1 but also the anxieties felt by all until the arrival of the new X CREST in May. In this CREST we have tried to capture some of the most important moments in your life at SMA. ln doing so, we hope this book will record permanently the many mem- ories shared by all, during this past year. Having been editor of the CREST has meant a great deal to me. l sincerely hope that this CREST will prove to have some special significance to each of you.
