Standing there at the front door bursting with prideg a huge purple orchid adoming her shoulder, stands the First Lady of our school ready to greet guests. Her grey eyes sparkle as she smiles when each person expressively declares the beauty of this building which has been her favorite dream for the past few years. Mrs. Reed has seen many of her dreams realized in the past eight years that she has been on SM.A's campus. The organ that you see in Harris Chapel is there because of the interest she has in you and me, the student. The radiance of her warm smile and affectionate personality reaches out and touches the whole student body. Whether you are the boy who is ill-at-ease at the Christmas Open House or the girl who is attending her first tea, Mrs, Reed makes you feel that the President's Home is your home too! So, Mrs. Reed, in appreciation for all that you have done for us and for the inspiration you have been, we dedi- cate the 1956 Crest to you, The Crest Staii 3-IDA 1 1 L1 ,A Mr J H Bain Vice Pres of Board Stockdale, Texas 5, , Qin -NJN 1 2 .-44 f ' ,..4- -1 Mrs L W Alexander Mr .T M Waddell MI' W A Willie-f1'1S Waco Texas Kermit, Texas Secretary of Board The Rev Prentis W Mr Carr P Collins Chllllh Dallas Texas First Baptist Church San Marcos, Texas San Marcos Texas '52 Mr W E Sampson President of Board Houston Texas The Rev Marshall Mr L B W1er Smith Charlotte Texas Kerrville Texas The Rev H D Lewis Mr J M Goodman Mr Arthur Squyres Mr I-I E Knox San Antonio Texas Tyler Texas New Braunfels Texas San Antonio Texas M Mrs. Reed Dean and Mrs. Ford Dean Harlan Ford Dean Harlan Ford is the new dean this year and a very efficient one. He is busy in his office and out of it too, seeing that readin', writin' and 'rithmetic is going properly all over Lattirnore Hall, Anytime you want to see him, it's a cinch you'll have to wait but a talk with him usually is profit- able to you. Mr, Ford received a Bache- lor of Arts Degree and a Master of Education at S outhwe s t Texas Teacher's College. Mrs. Ford, aformer teacher of the Academy, has a full sched- ule. She has to run pretty fast to chase down those Ford boys and keep up with the duties of being the Dean's wife. A demanding job is hers but she executes it in a won- derful manner. When we get tired of school it would pay to drop around and look at our own President's record of schooling He went to high school here at the Academy and after receiving his diploma went to work to earn the following certificates a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southwest Texas State Teacher s College and aMas ter's from the University of Texas There's always a great woman behind a great man they say and of course it's true in the Reeds case Mrs Reed is the one who does everything so graciously just when it should be done Her warm smile and that irnpish wink put even the most shy peo ple at ease. an Q N rQ --. , Mrs. I. These are typical comments of the girls around 4:30 p.m. in the afternoon on date nights. After supper there is a mad scramble for the boys to getchecked out and for the girls to get their last minute primping done so they'll look yummy for that someone special, Everyone gathers in the rumpus room where you wait to see if you and your date are the ill-fated pair who will be group captain. Roll is called and off you trundle to the picture show! It's so very cozy walking down the hill with that darling of your heart! But even better coming back up! Standing at the corner near the show is the runner who buys tickets for the dates. Your date collects your tickets and in to the show you go. It's a wild we ste rn and you sta y so excited you don't even know if he holds your hand! Ha! After the show the date line goes to the drugstore to get tanked up on cokes and other goodies. Then comes the long but much enjoyed trip up the hill. Yes, the date line is an institution at S.M.A. Well here c ome s the date line. Left to right are Ronnie Gadbury, Ann Login, Eric Williamson and Margie Parish. During the Christmas season President and Mrs. Reed invited all the boys and their dates to a special party in their home. Here the date line is getting tickets from Billy Wood before entering the Holiday Theater. The couples are: Joe Williams and Gretchen Schoelzcheng Roger O'Quinn and Mary Ann Laneyg I. L. Applewhif-6 and Charlotte Richburg and Eric Williamson with Margie Parish who is out of the picture. 0 Mousey Cochran, Lmda Watkms Ken Chandler, Roy Shaver, and Ted Clme are back to Slgfl the Ex'es Reglster Butch, Marllyn, and Sally help them Many Exes Return For Homecoming Day Thls year's Homecomlng was one to be long remembered For the flrst tlme 111 years, the Academy had a large attendance of ex students Most of the exes stayed all weekend and the few early arrxvals were m txme for the Ph1 Camlval and annual bonflre, Fnday mght A coffee and an assembly program were held for exes, and after lunch, there was open house m the new dorm1tory Elrzabeth Kokemot Hall was the football game To make It even better not only was xt a good game, but a v1ctor1ous one' Everyone had a chance to v1s1t wxth old frrends and tal.k over old tlmes More exes llsten to a funny story Pj from Mlss john son It must be sneaky' The freshman honored the exes by carrymg H115 bxg 110 slgn around the football fxeld before the game.
