In compiling the Copperleaf, we have made an effort to capture some of the highlights of school life that might bring pleasant reminders at a later date. We hope that you enjoy this book with us. Book of Memories INTRODUCTION: The following ten chapters represent the highlights of the 1955-56 school year. The au- thors are those who have contributed to the success of our endeavors. CHAPTER I Our new high school building was just a steel superstructure on September 12, 1955-the first day of the school year. We began our school term in the temporary barracks building on the outskirts of San Manuel-- just across from the trailer court. CHAPTER II Freshman initiation was our first big event. The sophomore class sponsored an auction of the freshman class. Slaves were purchased and much fun was had by all. The freshmen were good sports to the last min- ute and the hilarity was climaxed by a Mixer held at the Community Center. CHAPTER III Football season got off to a good start when the team played the Florence Gophers on September 27. The last game of the season was the Sunnyside game. The Miners ended the season with a four wins--three losses record. This was a very satisfactory record considering the handicaps involved in using the Communi- ty Center Park as a practice field. CHAPTER IV The spirit of Christmas arrived earjy in San Manuel this year. The senior class chose Silver Bells as the theme for their winter formal. As the high school auditorium was not yet completed, the dance was held in one of the large rooms in the grammar school. Snow-covered windows and holly greens added the necessary touches to complete the scene. CHAPTER V After several months of waiting our new school was finally finished! On Ianua ry 27, the final moving was done. First classes in the new high school were held on January 30. These new facilities were much different than our previous ones. CHAPTER VI Fashion was the keynote of the first assembly in our high school. Future Homemakers of America and members of the home economics classes modeled the frocks they made in sewing classes. The Parade of Fashion was highlighted by several talent acts. CHAPTER VII With graduation just around the corner, the junior class chose a very appropriate play centered around the trials and tribulations of a college fraternity trying to pledge members ofa popular group of freshman boys. CHAPTER VIII As a dramatic farewell, to high school years, the senior class chose, No Bride for the Groom. This hilarious comedy presented in May was the outstanding event of the last month of school, outshone only by graduation. CHAPTER IX With the arrival of spring, the Junior-Senior Prom took its place in our book of memoirs. This occasion fills a page that will long be remembered. CHAPTER X In concluding our book of memoirs our graduation is the finis. Although we dislike leaving our many friends and acquaintances, we realize the importance of this momentous occasion. For some, it means con- clusion of educational opportunities. For others this has been one more step up the ladder of Success. FINIS 4
