Taking an active part in all of our activities, Doris spent many hours on extra curricular work and then wandered home to do her homework. She must have done it very well, because she received the highest marks of any members of the grad- uating class. Congratulations to the '48 Valedictorian. Theresia Reimers, who has a continuous record of very high grades throughout her four years at San juan, receives one of the three scholarship awards. Besides her schol- astic record, Theresia has compiled an impres- sive array of dramatic accomplishment, both as an actress and as a student director. She has taken an active participation in all of the Thcspian and Honor Scholarship activities. body Pres' - dent spring SCU aids Paul Wham f e of our GW I - ' t 0 Oil ident, is the reclglenlfg sense of good Sports- hip. au . h years for leaderS d in his I fee manshiPv Perhaps lean: him a perfect ch01Ce fvarsity' athletic? ma e His 6XPeflence 3 0 en!S- v - res- ghe stu l unto! If an all-around award were given, Nancy Graham might easily be our choice. Nancy is the first girl in many years to walk off with the science award. Outdistancing her male competitors in both chemistry and physics, she also took four years of mathematics. Not content with one award, she took a scholarship award and one of the girls' athletic awards. Iii Charlie Duncan gets our first leadership award. His natural sense of humor and good judgement have made him a leader in all of his four years. Freshman class president, sophomore representative, commissioner of entertainment honor scholarship, student body president, and an active part in basket- ball and track for four years are but a few of his accomplishments. Our coaches are either giving us lectures and tests or sending us around the track, but on the other hand, we girls can learn all the latest gossip and jokes from around the campus. In the fall, we were engag- ed 1n the activities on the Association, Soccer, and Speedball fields Hockey was introduced to us this year, and we had more trouble with those shin guards and sticks Next, the coaches con fined us in the gym for the winter months When we weren t playing volleyball or basketball, the coaches moved us to the cafeteria for our Health classes Never will we forget those weeks which ended in tests or the days we voted for the girl with the Drettiest teeth hands, etc Y Coaches B ,,k' ranch: and sham r 0 e Our basketball team listening to last mlnuie rnslruchons ii' 'Alan -i QQ! ,gal .01 wt? Hqnnum Under the top-notch directing of Mr. Maddux Hogin, the music department of San Juan has continued to give first class performances. The Boys' Glee, new in the local music circles this year, made its formal bow at the fall Student Body Program. The Girls' Choir, larger this year than ever before, has taken part in many of our activities, and the specialty numbers worked out in collaboration by the choir and glee club have always delighted local audiences. Blossoming out this year, a new group of majorettes added color and excitement to the band. Under the leadership of Geneva Cook, the seven girls, including Iaunita Larson, Judy-Walpole, Donna Ogg, Pat Kelly, Eltha Tremp, and Joy Hartman contributed halftime interest at many football games. Working with the majorettes at some of the games ,and per- forming by themselves at others, another group of San Juan girls, the Spartanette Drill Team was very much in evidence throughout the year. They worked out many intricate routines with the help of Miss Shomate, girls' coach. Alice Whitney and Betty Pippett led this group. Last but not least, the Pep Band certainly took an active part at San Juan athletic events. Loyally appearing at every game, this group kept up the spirit and tight of our teams.
