Editor-in-Chief STAFF This years staff, composed of l6 Seniors and three juniors, may have been seen busily running through the halls in search of valuable pictures and information for the annual. Many hours were spent working diligently over copy, layouts, and pictures. Snow cones and carrots were again sold at football games to help finance the publication of the annual. We hope our many hours of work have resulted in an interesting and attractive yearbook. LEFT TO RIGHT: Maxine Howard, Senior Editorg Leni Mendoza, As- sistant Senior Editor. We had to face up to new respon- sibilities and new customs. We had locker combinations to learn, how to find our next class, and when not to buy such things as rally tickets. We had decisions to make and proved we could when we elected Dale Schrader to lead our class as president, with Pat Baker as vice-president, Brenda Barstad, secretary, and Gale Butler, treas- urer. For our dance we used the theme, Waltz around the World, complete with a globe extended from the ceiling. Finally the year passed and we became sophomores, feeling more a part of the student body. We had changed since that first year but had an equal amount of knowledge to acquire and experience to gain. This year as class officers we elected Larry Stephens, Linda Owens, Sharron Holly, and Mary Ann Howard, president, vice- president, secretary, and treasurer, respectively. We sponsored the Christmas dance that year and called it Mistletoe Mood. As decorations we used the traditional Christmas Tree, and strategically placed Mistletoe branches around the gym. September, 1957, and we entered a revised San Juan. New buildings were being built, we had a new library, cafeteria and juke box. At last we were upper-classmen and acquired more prestige and responsibilities. To begin our activities we chose Pete Anderson, Roy Sorenson, Karen McGuire, and Maxine Howard as our officers. Class ring time rolled around and we proudly displayed our new expendi- rures in modern design. Then we successfully produced our junior play, June Mad, a comedy about a yotmg teenage girl growing up. Richard Maloof la ed for our dream 'unior om, Moonlight Mist, P Y Y J Pl' We bid farewell to the graduating seniors with the annual Junior- Senior Banquet, which we built around the fitting theme of Sayonara ' When we entered the world of senior year, it was hard to realize that we had come this far. We wanted more rights, privileges, and recognition which we could only gain by showing we deserved them. We were wise in our choice of class officers as we elected, Larry Rhodes, president, Bob Blechschmidt, vice-president, Linda Geiler, secretary, and Carole Wolff, treasurer. We put over an out- standing drama for our senior play, called Outward Bound. This year we leaned back and relaxed at the Junior-Senior Banquet and reminiscingly danced at the Senior Ball, thinking back through the crazy things we'd done, the games and rallies we'd attended, the songs we hummed, the kids we met, and the teachers and counselors we'd known. Up the ladder of memorable events we've climbed and as graduation falls upon us, as we sing the Alma Mater for the last time, we enthusiastically advance into a new world as young adults. The team was not as bad as their record indicates, however. They lost to Placer by one touchdown, and to La Sierra, in a hard fought contest, by one point. The overall record was three wins and six loses. The Spartans ended the season by defeating Roseville by a score of 7 to 6. The C 8a B teams took first in the league, while the varsity took second. Richard Carrington led the varsity squad in fine fashion. Record-breaking minded Harvey Evans, who was setting records at every meet, led the B team. Gene De Visscher, who set a few records of his own, paved the way for the C team. In the Section Meet held at Sacramento, the Spartans showed the true desire and determi- nation of a San Juan team. The C team took first while the B and A teams took second and sixth respectively. Even though Cross-country is not very well publicized in school, this sport deserves more noticeable attention from the students. The team members work hard to make San Juan's name more widely known throughout the Sacramento area in the so-called minor sport. With a tremendous group of runners coming up, it looks like another very successful season for coach Frank Evers and his teams. l.et's give them our school spirit next year and the teams will go on to another year of winning ways. Their league record was 6-4, while for the season it stood at 13-11. The Spartans lost some close games or otherwise would be on top in the G.E.L. standings. As an example, they lost to E1 Dorado by a score of 52-48, lost to Elk Grove 34-31 and to La Sierra by a 40-33 count. In the Placer Tournament the Spartans rolled toa '75-54 victory over Willows then Folsom, in the final two seconds scored to win the second game 27-25. The Spartans came back strong to take Gridley by a score of 48-36 and the third place trophy. In the toumament Gale Butler was selected for the first all-toumey team while Dale Schrader was selected for the second all-toumey team. San Juan also won the sportsmanship trophy along with the outstanding rooting section award. Gale Butler broke the rebound record with a total of 310 rebounds for the season.
