'T K ' f . - 1 ,- Q QD 3 At first thought it seemed to appear that the staff had finally cracked under the strain when they chose The Fish Bowl as the theme for this yearbook. Fortunately ffor the preservation of the staff's inborn pride and dignityj our theme stems innocently from that familiar expression all the privacy of a fish in a bowl . It is the intruded upon, criticized, in-the-public-eye existence of the frust- rated goldfish which seems to correspond to our own high school life. Just as the goldfish finds it impossible to so much as wiggle a gill unobserved, We students also have been under constant scrutiny. Teachers, parents, and maybe a college or future employer have been interestedly Watching the outcome of our timid knock at the great door of learning. Our friends and classmates have been standing by ready to observe and judge us as we entered into club activities, plays, dances, and all the rest of that gay, mad whirl labeled extra-curricular activities . The coaches, teammates, and rooters have all kept an eagle eye on us as we sacrificed late hours and banana splits for the sake of the old alma mater. Ancl so on, every day of our high school years, we are in a fishbowl displaying ourselves to everyone with whom we come in contact ! As we turn the pages of this book and see ourselves, our friends, and our school as others have seen us, we can be justly proud of what took place in the San Juan fishbowl in the year 1949-50. 3 ' f f 4 'Q I ll - 'yi K. Among the persons pictured on these pages we can find good counselors, good sports, and quite often - good friends. In whatever way we remember our faculty we should do so with a deep sense of gratitude, for they are not only guiding us through our fishbowl W T MOONEY days - they are preparing us for the ocean that lies Principal beyond. Being prexy of the local Hi-Y and an officer at the first model legislature surely proved his abilities. Of course, hc's probably best known as that Hjolsonu guy who sang his way into our hearts at the Minstrel Show last year. Along the sports line, he proved to be .1 wonderful guy also. He's the one who gave us the super sports pages in this year's annual. And at the games, you always saw Ole' Faithful writing down all those complicated statistics. 5. M ?.-u kg UM. Therefore We feel it is only fitting and just to report at this time the impressive record piled up by last year's team. With twelve wins and two losses they fought their way to a second place position in the league. Returning letterman Mike Mc- Kenney, backed up by Muth, Davis and Morgan, should give the Spar- tans another strong team this year. Mr. Lipson is to be commended for his fine job of coaching under the inconvenience of having no home courts. lFor further developments regarding our team's success this season, see next year's annuallj ,.-. 1 4' I A l 'UV'-H4-il Left to Righf: Coach Lipson, Roy Muih, Mike McKenny, Bruce Morgan, Bill Pritchard, Glenn Smith, Howard Whiting, Darrel Davis. When you take into account the additional trials and tribulations encountered by placing these students in various musical contests and of feeding them between blasts on .1 tuba or arendition of Tchailtowsky, you will appreciate the hm' Work of our music department in playing host to the Sierra Foothill League Music Festival.
