In clothing, cutting, titting, and sewing are learned. During the first two years of college, students in the department have contact with all major aspects contributing specifically to personal and family life. The last two years are designed to prepare the students to meet requirements in her chosen field. Home Economics statt: Miss Ashe, Miss B-aird, Miss Lynch, Miss Loze, Mrs. Wendt, Miss Mignon, Miss Bolton, Miss Nevenzel, Miss Thomas, and Dr. Jones. A major grouping exists in Foods and Nutri- tion, Clothing, Institutional Managelncnt, or in Household Administration. For classroom work, this department has well- equipped food laboratories, dining rooms, and sewing rooms. An active nursery school is also on hand for the benefit of students who take courses in child development. The Foods and Nutrition class stirs up some goodies. ' nv-t.l .s

Lv E 1 .+ This student nurse at the O'Connor Hospital Pedi- atrics Department is preparing to give anintravenous. NURSING DEPARTMENT A new venture for the advancement of Nursing Education was launched this year after months of careful planning on the part of the Committee representing three hospitals-San Jose, O'C0nnor and Santa Clara County. For the first time, classwork formerly con- ducted in each hospital has been unified. Stu- dents commute to college for classes. A student nurse cleans an intravenous tubing in Cen- tral Service Department Lab., San Jose Hospital. The project, though young, is a growing one with an inspiring program in mind for the fu- ture. Congratulations are due the committee representing the local hospitals and to Dr. J. C. Elder, Dean of the Lower Divisionat this college, whose untiring efforts, interest and far-reaching vision made the establishment of this new de- partment possible.
