Ben Sweeney His Message Every year several teachers retire from active service. Unlike retirements in many other fields, teachers drop out of their profession with little fan- fare. As quietly as they have devoted their lives to their task, so do they retire. As you graduate,it is well to consider these peo- ple - and those still in the teaching ranks - who have served your educationalneeds for twelve years. Stop to count the number who started with you at an age when you were unable to read, write, compute, or speak correctly, and whose mutual efforts prepared you for your Commencement Day this year. Can you imagine many professions more exacting, more chal- lenging, or filled by a group more dedicated to an ideal? Seniors, on your behalf, may I dedicate my mes- sage this year to all of your teachers. May their com- pensation include the satisfaction ofseeing you reach the heights ofa successful life, because for them, this is the greatest compensation of all. ll, Mr. Edward Jefferson
