+UfUlEHllUN+ A school is known by its students, and students are known by their leaders. Leaders are important people, and they deserve to be. Yet, too often we take our dances, rallies, games, clubs, and publications for granted. Too often we fail to recognize the work that has been done, and the time that has been spent. We of San Jose are fortunate in having a group of students who, by their tireless efforts during the past year, have success' fully guided our student life. Thus, because we have come to realize the important work they do, because We feel that too often their accomplishments go unheralded, and because we see in them students at their best, We dedicate this Bell of 1940 to the LEADERS of San lose High School. l -Q

llllllllflllll You hold in your hands a 1940 Bell. Yes-the same name, the same size, the same activities, but different because it is a book filled with the spirit of new ideas. Early last fall the stall met, our plans were laid, and the work was begun. As the work progressed, we became more convinced that We had something important to do. We believed sincerely in the students of San Jose High, in their own activities, and in the qualities expressed by the leaders of those activities. Perhaps our desire to be original has led us to be radical, perhaps we have overdone somethings, yet we feel that in some ways we have accomplished our purpose. In that spirit We have created this Bell, and in that spirit we offer it to you. I 4
