BROKENSHIRE, DEAN OF EXTENDED DAY. from tlxe president’s desk.. .. If is fitting that our College Yearbook Staff has selected leadership as its theme. It is not by accident that student leaders direct and guide the activities of the College. No organization can operate long or successfully without a leader. A leader's task is to guide the organization toward established objectives. Leadership in its truest sense stems from the character and strength of the individual -involved. One cannot give true leadership unless he is willing to sacrifice. This not only calls for time, but also effort. Tolerance and understanding likewise are attributes of successful leaders. One cannot close his mind to the thoughts and suggestions of others if he is to succeed as a leader. All viewpoints must be considered. In arriving at a decision, due study and consideration are of the utmost importance; and once a decision has been made, it requires courage to stand by the decision in the face of criticism and selfish interests. Our Student Body officers through the years have given San Jose City College a student government that is surpassed by none in the State. Under this outstanding leadership the cultural development of our community and College has been enhanced, an outstanding college newspaper developed, scholarships to stimulate academic achievement created, an active sports program sponsored, and an evening film series for cultural and academic advancement supported. Our Student Body activities program has merited favorable commendation from the Western College Association in our Accreditation Report. As President of San Jose City College, I take this opportunity to congratulate the leaders of the Student Body and also to express my appreciation to Mr. C. W. Palmer, Advisor, and the Yearbook Staff for their outstanding effort on behalf of our College.
