orewot In today’s accelerated mode of living, with its vast complexities, the fate of the world as we know it will doubtless hinge on the manner in which man meets the inevitable challenge of decision. For this reason — and because today’s college student in a large measure will have to answer this challenge — the yearbook staff has chosen for the theme of San Jose City College’s initial “Collegian” the theme DECISION. A college annual can play an important role in a student’s life — both at college and in the ensuing years. Through this medium one can recall the pain, sweat, tears, and moments of pleasure that are the elements composing college life. The staff and Advisor C. W. Palme 1 are happy and proud to present the first issue of the Coilegian, SJCC’s pictorial panorama for the yea' r. 1959-60.

The publishing of this Yearbook marks another milestone in the rapid and ever expanding growth of San Jose City College. This College has grown from a comparatively small school with an enrollment of 500 Day students and 600 Extended Day students in 1953 to a relatively large school in the short space of six years. The Fall 1959 enrollment figures show the College to have grown to 2,975 Day students with 3,750 Extended Day students. San Jose City College has rightfully established itself as one of the top ranking iu.iior colleges in California. Here a student may secure education or training which enables him to liansfer to a four-year institution of higher learning or to enter directly the trade or industry of his choice. The degree of success achieved rests basically with you as a student, for here you will find a faculty highly skilled and selected—each being a specialist in his own right, willing to help you in any way possible. San Jose City College offers training in over 375 specific courses.
