if TTEIHIEZHTTB-lill' 11 ' TEH' 5 In the front office, Mr. Kruger ruled as principal and Mr. Freeborn and Mrs. Glanzer were two of the four new counselors. Up on the A-deck, Mr. Buffum toiled in A-1, Mrs. Lorona and Mrs. Clark were in A-9 and A-11 as they introduced students to Spanish. Mr. Tracy taught chemistry in MS-9, Mr. Neal could be found in the photo lab in MS-7, and over in MS-1 Mr. Police taught math. Thus, the first year of San Gabriel High School began. San Gabriel High has brought many athletes to the collegiate and professional level. Dick Swan and Bill Ostrander starred in baseball and football at Stanford University. The Rev. Barry Leventhal was the starting linebacker for UCLA in the '62 Roseball Game, and perhaps some of you saw Ray Ellis at Pepperdine and Mark Scott at Washington in recent years. Mike Krukow currently pitches for the Chicago Cubs. But athletic achievements have been just one scene for Matador Stardom. Jymmie Shore was an original mouseketeer who starred with Fred McMurray in many Disney films. Sarah Purcell appears weekly on Real People. Sue Meschner can also be seen on television as she appears on the 351.98 Beauty Show or with Regis Philbin on morning T.V. The original Chubby Checkers Twist Girl was Candy Johnson, class of '61, and Jon Jarvis, class of '70 plays keyboard for Rod Stewart. During the life of San Gabriel High School there have been many history making dates. Some of those are as follows: Jan. 1959 - Alaska becomes 49th state. Aug. 1959 - Hawaii becomes 50th state. Jan. 1961 - John F. Kennedy becomes the 35th President of the U.S.A. Nov. 1963 - President Kennedy is assasinated. Feb. 20, 1962 - First U.S. Astronaut to orbit the earth. Nov. 22, 1963 - Lyndon B. Johnson becomes President of the U.S.A. April 4, 1968 - Assisination of Martin Luther King. Jan. 20, 1969 - Richard M. Nixon becomes 37th President ' of the U.S.A. 1972 - 1975 - Watergate Aug. 1974 President Nixon resigns. Aug. 1974 - Gerald R.
