Pioneering Adventure There is poetie justice in the linkage of our Gold- en Anniversary with the Golden ,luhilee of Cali- fornia. At this mid-century mark in the history of our eollege we are repeating, in a sense. the pioneeri- ing adventure of the gold seekers and huilders ol' a hundred years ago. They sought gold and the polit- ical foundations of statehood. We seek another kind of gold and the foundations of a new and great college. The treasure we are looking for is the lN'lil'l'lllClli of human lives. lt is our experience that the search is no armchair husiness, hut a rugged undertaking in which initiative, hard Work, and disappointment are the familiar ingredients. But if there is dis- appointment, there is also the persistenee of the pioneer who came to his pocket of gold in the end. And so We stiek to our hills and go on digging. -P. F. VALENTIN R Dean of General l6lIIlf'lllilHl P. F. VALENTINE Dean of Iivneral Edurution JOHN H. CORNEHLSEN, JR. MARY A. WARD FLORENCE VANCE Dean of Men Dean of Women Registrar
