PROGRESS OUR school and mine, yet what have we done? Which way are we going? Let us give you the answer. Progress is our watchword, and it has been since 1896. Yes, we have existed as an institution since that year of the last century. The first graduating class, the one that graduated from the old brick grammar school building on ,Hagar Street, consisted of three girls, who had been tutored by a combined principal-teacher. Now we have a total of 148 summer graduates, who have, during their six years here, been taught by a large portion of our staff of sev- enty-eight teachers. Our attendance has increased fifteen percent since a year ago last September. In fact, we have increased at the rate of from ten to fifteen percent every year since 1909, when we moved into our present C building. Furthermore, we are justly proud of our present enrollment of 2016 and of our staff. We have progressed l1Ot only from the standpoint of enrollment, but also from that of improved and enlarged equipment. During the last year our stage, labora- tories, and shops have been continually refurnished. Our gymnasiums have been granted new supplies, and our illustrious football 'team was given new suits. Then to facilitate transportation, the Board of Education provided us with ten new busses and drivers. In previous years the busses had made only twelve runsg now they make fifteen. Last year we had only one all-high school bus, and this year we have two. K, Also deserving recdgieiition is our much improved band. We have acquired a drum major fhe swings a 'Sparkling batonj and many new members. They were quite a credit to us at all our football games. We also wish to call attention to our new faculty members. We have a new girls' vice principal, Mrs. Ianet M. Moorman, and four new teachers. In this last year we have also improved our publications, namely the Whirlwind and the Orange Blossom. The Whirlwind has increased its size bya whole column and the annual boasts of a subscription list of over twelve hundred. The campus has been improved along-with the rest of the school. Our Senior Glade is a very recent addition, and its landscaping is unique. Next year we expect to see laid the foundation of our new boys' gymnasium, followed by the remodeling of the present gym for the girls. Let's look into the future with hope and keep progress as our watchword. BETTY Rrrcrma U41
