S.D. took an early 7-0 lead in the lst quarter, but it was downhill from there. The Cardinal passing game was a major factor, picking the S.D. secondary apart for large gains. Mozocchi hit on 9 of 15 passes for 97 yds. Running back Harris cut up Mustang defense, gaining 97 yds. in 16 carries. The Rajas scored twice before Paul Herold recovered fumble on their 2 yard line. Mozocchi then blasted over and Fox kicked the extra point making it 14-7. The third Indio touch- down came on an unusual pass-fumble-fumble recovery play. Scoring S.D. With nine minutes remaining in the game, Vic Yoshida blasted over from the one, capping a 68 yd. drive. The second S.D. score came when Dunford went in from the 5. Coming back, the Mustangs scored due to a bad snap from center and Fox's kick gave S.D. a 7-6 lead. After halftime S.D. wasted no time and marched 66 yds., with Mozocchi taking it in from the 8. The victory was due mainly to S.D.'s great defense, who held the Pirates to 57 yds. rushing and 11 yds passing. Scoring by quareter S.D. O 7 6 O 13 Oceanside 6 0 O O 6 THE TABLES TURN AT LA JOLLA 9-7 Fox, who could have been the goat of the game for duffing an extra point, turned hero by kicking the winning field goal. A blocked punt recovered on the 4 by Gordon Berg set up the first score on a pass to Bob Stevens. The Vikings then scored on a pass interception and kicked the extra point for a 7-6 lead. A second costly Viking mistake set up the winning field goal. The S.D. defense once again did the job. Mike Kozlowski and Vic Yoshida were outstanding as both the offense and defense over- whelmed the Islanders. The offense gained 348 yds., while the defense gave up 145. IVIUSTANGS V - I A -V ia This year, in SPORTS, has been a big one for San Dieguito. lt began with the power house Varsity Football team, who came out of a slump, rolled over the Coast League, undefeated, and thrust deep into the CIF playoffs, They, in turn, were followed by the Colts who did the same with ease, and the J .V . Cross Country team who continued their long-standing record. In the area of winter sports, both J.V, and Varsity Basketball produced exciting ball, and ended up with respectable records. The big triumph here, however, was the outstanding wrestling team, in which both Varsity and J.V , demor- alized their opponents, and cruised to an easy first in the already fearful Coast League . As for spring sports, track is strong in numbers, interest, and talent, and should be a major contender in a number of events, if not all , The golfteam is in good shape, while the young swim team appears fantastic, already qualifying some members for CIF. The Varsity baseball has jumped onto a winning season, and is looking smooth, along with the J.V. baseball, and studded tennis team. In regards to these accomplishments, which were gained through pride, and hard work, l can honestly state that this has indeed been the year of the MUSTANG .
