The departments of art, home economies, music and speech make up the Division of Fine Arts. The major productions given by members of the Drama Department this year have made San Diego State students, faculty and the community aware of the fine work done in the field of dramatics on campus. The Speech Arts Department has expanded in its use of mass communi- cations media with increased city-wide programs. The Music Department is planning a 3500,000 building addition, sched- uled for completion in 1965. The curriculum in the Division of Engineering at San Diego State was recently revised to reflect industryis demands for men with a broader understanding of the science of engineering. A graduate program in the area of mechanical design'is being planned. A ?HS2,250.000 Engineering and Applied Science building was constructed. The structure will have the newest of modern equipment valued at over a million dollars. During the year a radical ground effect machine, similar in appearance and operation to a low level 'gflying saucer , was built by Aero Space students. WU DR. WILLIAM TERRY Division Chairman The completion of the new gymnasium in February was welcomed by the Division of Physical Education, Health Education and Recreation. The new structure houses three gyms, two swimming pools, locker rooms and offices. New outdoor facilities including a playfield and tennis courts were also completed this year.
