One was in long distance running; Marc Davis and John Garrett being a great asset to the team. In pole vaulting, Brian Monroe took first place in the Tri-meet against University City and Pt. Loma schools. One of the disadvantages of the season was that the team didn ' t have home games. The stadium track was being renovated, and it was not possible to compete on home turf. Only the dedicated best kept with the track team. Commented J.V. track member Joe Lindsay, The people who come to the track prac¬ tice are people who really want to be there. He ' s the only coach I know to turn a zero and ten team around in one year, said Joey Heidecker. BOYS ' TENNIS Boys- TMtnis V, Closing Closing As the lights dim on centerstoge ' 87, we think of the performances of the past year. We remem¬ ber the thrills, dissappointments, pressures and good times shared by all. The sophomores, juniors and seniors all participated in lunchtime competitions which built school spirit. We know there is no turning back. But we accept that and look toward the future. Sophomores and .. . juniors began to plan their futures with the help of ' their counselors, while taking their PSAT ' s Mean¬ while, seniors took their SAT ' s, anxiously awaited acceptance from colleges and planned their future careers. Jill Wagner, senior class president, re¬ marked, ' Tm scared to leave such a happy place, but look forward to my new life. Shawn Coveil, vice president, adds, I ' ve been through a lot at this school. I ' ve had some great times, and have a lot of ■ memories. Although it will be hard to leave, it ' s time for change. It ' s time to grow up. We also remember the trends of the year 1986- 87. Corona t-shirts, Reeboks, FILA ' s, Guess jeans, white fringe boots, swatch watches, Maui and Sons t-shirts. The different clubs at SDHS took part in certain trips such as the Close-Up club ' s trip to Washington, D.C. and the senior class ' planned trip to Mazatlan. All students will treasure their memories of the year, hoping that the friendships made will last a lifetime. We go on toward our future goals with an optimistic outlook and determination to succeed. We are center-stage ' 87. I From head to toe students tried to look their studly best. Current trends included everything from ratted hair to Swatch watches to Reeboks. Other popular fashion statements included Guess, fringe boots. Ray-bans, Levi ' s 501, and jeans jackets. Of course there were some who considered themselves above wearing trendy things like Guess, ( a rip- off ), those who called Swatches “boppish and jeans jackets a neo-hippy statement. Howev¬ er this didn ' t stop many rear ends from proudly displaying the small Guess triangle or wrists from be¬ ing weighted down with colorful funny-faced Swatches. Human faces were also seen hiding their eyes behind Ray-bans to shield themselves against teacher ' s glares and flourescent lighting. 128 Idrist Special occasions. Changing, dancing, leaping, creeping from old life to new, wondering what I think of you, unseen dreams, and newfound schemes, 5 lives enmeshed, embroiled en¬ hanced at last and suddenly heart snagged, held fast, no turning back, no letting go, too late to run to soon to know, if all is well yet time will tell. Honest Desii: ' Reaiciea: ' : This is merely a spill of me and should not be loolilat as the complete persona. For all you know is what I tell you and that in itself may not be reality. Take it as you wish, for it is mere entertainment and in no way has to be accepted as me. Mold what you tliink to be true -after all- it will soon disfigure. They promised her Sanctum -death was only seen. She passed the river Where the pall bearer stood. Olive branches laced her tightly. As she walked. Along the rows of cypress. I Have Longed To Move Away 1 have longed to move away From the hissing of the spent lie And the old terrors ' continual cry Growing more terrible as the day Goes over the hill into the deep sea; I have longed to move away From the repetition of salutes. From there are ghosts in the air And ghostly echoes on paper. And the thunder of calls and notes. I have longed to move away but am afraid; Some life, yet unspent, might explode Out of the old lie burning on the ground. And, crackling into the air, leave me half-blind. Neither by night ' s ancient fear. The parting of hat from hair. Pursed lips at the receiver. Shall I fall to death ' s feather. By these I would not care to die. Half convention and half lie.
