If l were seventeen years old and had a time machine which gave me just one choice, where would I like to go? To Athens ot the Golden Age? To Rome during, the rein of Caesar Augustus? To Renaissance Venice? To Paris in the time of Louis XIV? To the England of the First Elizabeth or ot Victoria? No, it l were seventeen years old and had a choice lille that l believe I would stay right here and now, for somehow l feel that the remaining years ot this century, with all their problems and possibilities tor disaster, will bring a richer, fuller. more challenging, and more adventurous lile on this earth than it has ever seen betore. l am certain, too, that every American boy and girl tace greater opportunities than those ot any other generation of youth in the history ol mankind. VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY Our cross country team, the men with the iron lungs and super en- durance, were led into battle this year by their new coach, Henry Wie- gand, and Captain Martin Phillips. The team, on the whole, showed great im- provement over last year's squad and finished fifth in city league standings by defeating Kearny and Pt. Loma. Cut- standing star was sophomore sensation Don Kynard, who showed promise of doing great things for the long distance squad.
