The pep gdnd invaded the erstwhile peaceful campus of SDHS last fall with a repertoire consisting of one Tiger Rag and a population of eleven characters, better known as shmoos. Organized by George Harbaugh and Jay Wright, the band played special music for the football games, turned out for basketball games, and accompanied the teams out of town. The gdnd reached a new high this year with about forty regular members, a goodly portion of them from the sophomore class. This organization not only played at the football games, but performed on the gridiron with the Sergeanettes, marched in parades, and participated in Homecoming. 7,'e Song and cheer zeddend for this year were the most active crews to issue from the Cave in many calendars, despite head yeller Jimmy's attempted flips and accomplished falls. The boys and gals, under head songster Joyce, pepped up spirit at all the football and basketball games. nw- it fi-fi'

7l'e with a membership ot I00 boys, has proved itself one of the most active groups in the school. The cadets have served as guards at the football games, participated in parades and competitions throughout the year, and raised and lowered the flag daily. Twenty-eight cadets with outstanding records in ROTC ushered at the Harbor Bowl game and were especially commended 'For their fine work. All the cadets belong to the city-wide Cadet Club which presents the two military balls each year. 7he Rifle 7edm has been outstanding in the city this year. Having taken first place in the William Randolph Hearst and 6th Army Inter Collegiate Matches in competition with Kearny, Hoover, La Jolla, and Point Loma, the team promised to do well in this year's inter-school rifle competition. I 7he 0 c,leAt dA performances at the Homecoming assembly, Christmas Pageant, and spring concert were highlights of their year. The orchestra has about 40 members. . .
