K events became more dignified. Dignity was rampant at the dances given at the middle of the year. Everyone seemed to have the complex that LIFE was going to come in any minute to talre pictures. They all stood around, looting at decorations that had talren the better part of a hundred forged passes to malre. ln the spring the students displayed fine school spirit by joining every club they could. We know, because, coincidentally. we were taking club pictures for the annual at the time. The same amazing loyalty was demonstrated for Carmelita. 'No one could rest. or even study. unless he was out mating sure that Mr. Marcelli didn't need his help. At the beginning of the year stu- dents were flushed with a feverish joy be- cause they were beck at school at last. At lootball games they expressed their patriotic fervor in such statements as: Get that babe in the third fowl , Who's got my shoe? , Pardon me. pardon, oopsl Excuse me, OUCHl and SQUlRRRTl Football games, as the first activities, also held a special honor as official starter of the school yearl For school is actually in session only when there are activities to lreep students out of it. Vlhen enough money had been made from football games to finance activities the rest of the year and the students' earlier fever of joy had become a coma of despair, CFM
