Intellectual and social attainment are important, but without a first-hand knowledge of Jesus, they are of little value. God wants each of you to have a part in this work. To help you to accept this responsibility is the purpose for which your school was established. Only when you learn of the Master and dedicate your talents to his cause, will the obiectives of your alma mater have been reached. PRI CIPAL'S MESSAGE Harry C. Mattison, B.A., M.A., D.D.S. Chairman, Board of Trustees The needs of young men and women are not very different from the needs of their parents, and indeed from the needs of all men and women everywhere. They need God. Man cannot live without God, for He is the source of all life. Indeed death - both temporal and eternal - is the result of man separating himself from the source of life. Jesus said: Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. John 11:26. This is because through believing one becomes forever united with the source of all life. They need each other. No man lives unto himself. No man is an island. A major part of life is learning how dependent we are upon our fellows, how dependent they are upon us, and learning that almost all real growth and progress results from teamwork. We can neither speak nor act without affecting someone else. They need themselves-and faith in themselves. Every person needs to know himself- his capacities, his limitations, his strengths, his weaknesses. One must know himself in order to possess faith, and in turn self-confidence, in himself-and without faith and self-confidence, personal growth, development, maturity, and progress are impossible. To provide a context, an environment, in which these needs will be maximally satisfied is the task, the challenge, and the purpose of the Board of Trustees of this school. Mrs. Millie Adamson, M.S. Our president we give you, who'll Present her cabinet. l'd have you know the one Who will assist me in my work. lt will be Harley and I know He surely will not shirk. The notes of all our meetings held Must be in neat array, And Claudia will surely keep Our records in that way. The monies of our class will be Quite safe, for we have called Anita to be treasurer. Hope she is not appalled. Our pastor, Randy, must be sure To lend a ready hand And keep the class all running smooth A gay and happy band. Teachers are often given credit when a student is successful, and teachers are often blamed when a student does not learn. Parents are often given credit when a student is well- adiusted to school life, and parents are often blamed when a pupil is maladiusted. But some- times neither parents nor teachers should be held responsible for either the success or failure of a student. For in spite of hereditary and environmental influences, strong as they are, each individual is a separate entity with a mind and will of his own. Parents and teachers can go only so far. The child has a free will by which he can turn the most favorable circumstances into failure, or the most unfavorable circumstances into suc- cess. Teachers and parents sometimes praise or blame themselves or each other for the direc- tion a young person's life takes when no one should be rightfully praised or blamed but the individual himself, who exercised his own will in spite of, not because of, those adult influ- ences. Not that parents and teachers should give up trying-for in the maiority of cases their influence will determine a child's course of action, but there still are those baffling cases! How important it is, then, that a child's will be early controlled by the Spirit of God. For when one is able to do God's will as if it were his own, then God can accomplish man's will as if it were His own.
