'Twould be about a crystal lake 'Tween mountains grand and tall, And on its shores the birds would make Their nests until the fall. I'd tell about the Autumn leaves In red and golden brown, And how in gentle Autumn breeze, They all go fluttering down. And then I'd tell of Winter's snow, The very first that year, And how the icy brook would flow Where come the woodland deer. And after that I'd write of Spring And of the dogwood fair, The thrush that makes the wildwood sing, The cuddly baby hare. And, Oh, of course I'd tell the rest, Of summer bright and blue, And little birds who leave the nest- All these I'd tell to you! -Charlene sewwewh 1 R X mi Ai or is or r E wir f- .A . School is out and the kids are home, 'and you wish it were fall and they were back in school. Do you try and plan your summers? Do you arrange for vacations that fall through? Do you plan beach parties when it rains? Do you arrange for camping trips when it snows? Do you get up-a big swimming party when everyone comes down with a cold? Do the ants always visit your picnics? Does the sand always seem to find its way into your food? Does a beach party, camping trip, or just a little family outing mean more headaches, hard work and trouble to you? If so, then you are probably just a normal hard-working American trying to get a little relaxation. Well, don't give up now! In just a few short months the kids will be back in school and you can settle down to the old grind and relax a little. 'PCSSY ' :canal sus 0 S D Q X--M 'LH' 2. C Q ,M .,, 'Lvl' I WK K '7f. Today there are so many evil forces loosed in Q the world, so much pain and suffering, and so many threats to the freedoms we enjoy that one is tempted to ask, What is there left to thankful about? The important thing is not to lose heart. If we lose money, we lose something. If - ' we lose our integrity, we lose more. If we lose our courage, we lose everything. - A C ,, . . To those of us who work and live in a Christian school the Lord has given special daily blessings, whether we recognize them or not. He has provided each with gifts . to use and to enjoy. Among our friends we can find release from the evils of the A ' world. By being thankful for the gifts of life, we set an example others will desire A , to imitate. x 1 Let each of us make sure that our example will properly represent our school, 1- church and home. ff 1 4 fu A . May all of us, either parents or teachers, never lose sight of that goal and may we achieve it day by day and see its results in the characters of our young people as they live and develop into men and women, serving a Lord that they have learned to love. Christian Education is truly the harmonious development of all three faculties4mental, spiritual and moralfand their correct use gives us victory now and forever. - Donovan Olson 1 'f1.n. ,H 1 L,v'Kgs'1 f lg: ,I i if ' 4 S fi' as-.' Who will put their talents of God to win souls? ln accordance with this solemn question the young people of S.D.U.A. decided to share their faith two nights a week in a youth evangelism program at the La Mesa-Lemon Grove S.D.A. Church in eleven weekend programs from October 19 to Novem- ber 23. Some young people gave out hand bills or literature, some ushered, many helped in the sacred music, and the youth pictured above gave the sermons. They were inspired by the words in Messages to Young People which declares that God calls for . . . whole armies of young men who are large-hearted and Sang Leader SMITH Announcer VEVERKA large-minded and who have a deep love for Christ and the truth. With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon- coming Saviour might be carried to the whole world! The speakers were: Charles Giddings, David Hall, Kaye Hol- land, Judy Johnson, Charlene Larsen, Dan Smith, Tom Smith, Cliff Williams, Sharon Kelly, Priscilla McDunnah, Sherrie Potter, Paul Steinbach, Lannie Rudley, Carol West, Jeanette Williams, Larry Veverka, Roger Denman, Jerry Mclntosh, Judy Skeoch, Sue Purdy, Brian Manwarren, Ruth Franklin, Lynne Ferrar, James Holland, Wanda Palmer, Dorothy Dick, Florence Kolpacoff, Don Hardin. Youth leader, Elder Walter Blehm, cons ducted our fall week of Devotion. He stressed the positive side of Christian livinggthe hap- piness that is in store for Christian young people. the joys of association, healthful rec- reation, the thrills in service for Christ. K A 3 O GOD: When crisis comes my way and touches me, Teach me the importance of myself if I would cease to lean And be of help to others. af -- Z7 flyer Elder Ben Hassenphlug, well-known missionary, Evangelist, and present Pastor of the new Ocean Beach Seventh-day Adventist church, was the speaker at our Spring Week of Prayer. Elder Hassenphlug read much from the Holy Scriptures and stressed the ideas that youth must think, cultivate a derire for righteousness, and daily make a choice. Whether or not he reaches the supreme goal depends on his daily choosing the right path and then placing his hand in the hand of God. Stark V A , -4, as . kvfak K f is A . .. , S -A iii? if X A .
