FRONT ROW LEFT TO RIGHT: Mitch McComb, Scott Seavers, Greg Thomasson, Tom Kramer. Sophomore Basketball 71-72 The sophomore basketball team of the 71-72 season was unlike previous years in many ways. The big difference was teamwork and 5 irit, both in games and at practice. Another eciding factor durin Crestview League competition was the a dition of sophomore newcomer to Triton basketball forward Mike Stavio, who came down from Stan DiMag- io's IV squad to score the most points in eague play for the B's - 180! The sophomores started out very well. Their first season victory at Anaheim was vindic- tive of their successful season. They set a record for soph. win-Iosses, breaking the 13- 12 70-71 record to 14-11. This in itself was a high point. The sophs held their 2nd annual basketball tourney here in the Triton gym, playing such teams as Bolsa Grande, Mission, Viejo, and Valencia. In the Christmas Tournament tDec. 27-301 at Santa Ana High School, the Tritons beat Kennedy and Western in the first two days and then lost to Los Alamitos in the championship bracket in the third round. Under the able coaching of Fred Newhart, the Triton Bees ended a great basketball story with an 8-6 league mark and a new record for season win-Iosses which indicates a pretty good season. Wretsling 72a e1 ywxwymmmw, San Clementets wrestling completed this year with mixed emotions. Although as a whole they weren't able to perform consistently enough to place well, individual team members placed very high in league finals. Captain john Romero felt that due to the great coaching he and four other team members, A! Thomas, Clark Jarrett, Armador Gonzales, Billy Theiralt were able to make the C.I.F. league finals. The Team had many Iettermen returning which gave it a fine spirit. Clark jarrett, also known as the little bruiser, was voted most inspirational, while Captain john Romero was voted most valu- able. Over all the season saw many wrestlers get top honors in the league, and the team develope good returning wrestlers for next year.
