After looking both good and bad in their opening loss, the Dons bounced back for a good team effort in their league opener. Another loss preceded two straight victories. These two satisfy- ing wins put the Dons in the midst of the fight for the championship, but the heart-breaking loss to arch-rival Carlmont ended the San Carlos title hopes. The game was close for 3 quarters but Burlingame finally took the measure of the un- derdog Dons with a 4th quarter touchdown. The Panthers went on to an undefeated season, giving the Dons some solace from their defeat. The Cherokees found volatile San Carlos a bit too much to handle on the night of October lst. Despite a bad night at place-kicking, the Dons dominated play and rolled over the overpowered Cherokees for the first time in the history of the rivalry. WOODSIDE 27-SAN CARLOS 0 bid for the S.P.A.L, championship. The 'Cats struck early for a W 27-0 lead at the half. They coasted through the 2nd half while y the Don defense stiffened to hold the Woodsiders scoreless. ' Page 182 f J v-4... .-am,-4 A wa . 1, st Swear' iid-bil ,-1: fa. 'f -446.
